Peter has worked for more than 20 years with strategy development, turnarounds and transformation. He is equally experienced in both consulting and the industry where the most recent position outside consulting was as Executive Vice President in the Danish food retailer Dagrofa/MENY. Peter has typically been pivotal in designing, implementing and managing solutions that enable companies to grow in stagnated markets, often with fierce competition. Peter has advised top management and been responsible for deploying solutions ranging from a strategic market perspective to innovation processes and portfolios, entailing potential organisational redesign, new segment focus, marketing refocus and M&A.

What do you think is the most interesting dilemma on the business agenda right now?
The pace and the frequency with which leaders need to plan and act is an interesting challenge. The days where management could plan for 3-5 years are over. Today, the best they can do is to develop “a good plan to deviate from”, which in turn puts requirements on “strategic readiness” of the leadership team and raises dilemmas regarding the balance between stamina and ability to change. I find that the strategy agenda of top management has changed to emphasise the ability to execute and obtain a real breakthrough performance. There is plenty of good strategic thinking going on in business today, but even the most admired companies struggle to allocate the project management and right resources that can actually drive and deliver a real and outstanding breakthrough. Again, the thinking is often in place, but nine out of ten companies are just playing the game – they are not winning.

What does The HOW mean to you?
It means connecting strategic objectives closely with execution and feasibility. Encompassing customers, competitors, company and employees.

I’m really inspired when I hear Jim Hagemann Snabe talk about dreams and details and about leading transformation from a position of strength.

To me, Valcon means a strong set of values that drives us to meet our colleagues and clients with respect and honesty.
